Mitchell Johnson will be discussing his new exhibit “Here and Now,” a collection of landscape and color-field paintings at the Terrence Rogers Fine Art Gallery with a reception to follow.
Johnson’s large-scale canvases deliver the immediacy and impact of plein air painting, combined with the serious understanding of abstract form and color – wherein a landscape becomes a still life.
This series of paintings is the synthesis of Johnson’s fascination with the paintings of Josef Albers and Giorgio Morandi. Johnson had been painting in Italy and came across an Albers exhibition at his favorite museum - The Museo Morandi in Bologna. These paintings were created shortly thereafter.
