The electrifying Benin-born, New York-based vocalist Angélique Kidjo will perform tonight at Royce Hall. Kidjo integrates the drum-based grooves of her native West Africa with Euro-pop, R&B, electronica, and Latin music, to create her unique Afro-funk sound.
Described as the most popular female African artist to emerge since Miriam Makeba, Kidjo will perform songs from her new record “Djin Djin.” Produced by Tony Visconti, “Djin Djin” features guest performances by Alicia Keys, Branford Marsalis, Peter Gabriel, and Ziggy Marley.
The LA-based band Dengue Fever will open with their distinct blend of 1960’s Cambodian pop, American surf, and psychedelic rock.
