BRINGING GODZILLA DOWN TO SIZE AT GIANT MONSTER NIGHT

August 3, 2008

“Godzilla,” “Mothra” and “King Ghidorah” flattened megalopolises for over fifty years during the golden age of Japanese sci-fi films. The new documentary “Bringing Godzilla Down to Size” shows how these monsters were created and animated using handmade F/X techniques. Directed by Norman England, the film takes us behind the scenes of miniature destruction through interviews with special-effects artists, monster stand-ins, filmmakers and legendary sci-fi actors Akira Takarada, Haruo Nakajima and Hiroshi Koizumi. 2008, Classic Media, 68 min.

As part of the Egyptian’s Giant Monster Night, “Bringing Godzilla Down to Size” will be followed by screenings of “War of the Gargantuas” (1966) and “Mothra” (1961).
