MOVIN’ ON UP: THE MUSIC OF CURTIS MAYFIELD & THE IMPRESSIONS

Tuesday, April 15, 2008

“Movin’ On Up: The Music And Message Of Curtis Mayfield & The Impressions” tells the story of the legendary artist and R&B group whose music was a virtual soundtrack for the civil rights era in the ‘60s. Mayfield’s solo career, which included the 1972 “Superfly” soundtrack, went on to shape the sound of urban life in the ‘70s.

In an interview filmed exclusively for “Movin’ On Up,” civil rights leader Ambassador Andrew Young speaks about the effect classic Impressions songs had on the movement and how their songs were sung for inspiration during marches.

“Movin’ On Up” includes a wealth of full-length performances filmed throughout America and Europe beginning with The Impressions singing their classic hit, “It’s All Right” (1965), and culminating with five songs from “Superfly,” including “Freddie’s Dead,” “Pusherman,” and “Superfly.”
