Launched in 2004, the SFJAZZ Collective has quickly become one of the most exciting and acclaimed groups on the American jazz scene. The all-star jazz ensemble includes some of today’s finest jazz performers and composers — including Downbeat magazine’s “Artist of the Year” honorees, Grammy-nominated trumpeter Dave Douglas (2006) and saxophone giant Joe Lovano (2001).
Honoring jazz saxophone legend Wayne Shorter, the program features new arrangements of Shorter works as well as original compositions by the band members. The Collective’s innovative approach to repertoire honors jazz’s recent past combined with an eye toward the future.
