FUNK RUMBLE BLOCK PARTY

LIQUID LANDSCAPE: LA RIVER DANCE PERFORMANCE & TOUR

As part of a travelling series on water in cities around the world, eight adventurous TaskForce dancers will perform at the LA River. PASADENA CHALK FESTIVAL

As the world’s largest street painting festival, 600 artists will use 25,000 sticks of pastel chalk to create spectacular sidewalk murals at the Pasadena Chalk Festival. Attracting artists from virtually every LA community, witness the creation of elaborate pavement art that after the two day Festival will be washed away.

Now in its 16th year, this one-of-a-kind art event is free to the public. Sponsored by the non-profit arts organization, Light Bringer Project, all benefits from the Festival will help fund local arts programs for kids.

CUBAN MUSIC FESTIVAL

The 14th annual Cuban Music Festival, known as Presencia Cubana en Los Angeles, is a celebration of Cuban culture with dancing, spicy food and live music by such local groups as Orquesta Charangoa, Los Puros and the Echo Park Project. Held at the historic Echo Park Lake, the Festival is the only major LA event commemorating Cuba’s 1902 independence from Spain.

RAMONA RODEO

The 25th Ramona Rodeo features a three-day line-up of bareback riding, steer wrestling, bull riding, lawn mower races and the selection of the Rodeo Queen. With the backing of the world’s most famous rodeo cowboy, Casey Tibbs, the Ramona Rodeo has become a prominent event in the rodeo world. BENT FESTIVAL

The Fifth Annual Bent Festival celebrates DIY electronics and circuit bending, the short-circuiting of battery-powered children’s toys to create new musical instruments. Artists from around the globe perform music with their homemade or circuit bent instruments, teach workshops and create remarkable interactive art installations.

Over the last few decades a worldwide subculture has sprung up around circuit bending. For three days the Festival brings together artists of all ages and showcases state of the art DIY electronics as well as circuit bending culture.

MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY PARADE

The MLK Day Parade, themed “30 Years of Continuing the Dream,” commences on Martin Luther King Blvd at Crenshaw Blvd and lasts for two miles until Western Ave. It includes more than 150 floats, 20 drill teams, ten dance groups, celebrities, and the bombastic tunes of a military marching band.The Martin Luther King Kingdom Day Parade has been celebrated for the last 20 years and over a million people take to the streets of Los Angeles to remember the life and works of the great man.Local vendors and restaurants spill out onto the street in the carnival atmosphere. PASADENA DOO DAH PARADE

Founded in 1976 as a response to the traditional formality of the Rose Parade, which is also held in Pasadena, the Doo Dah Parade features parade participants like the BBQ & Hibachi Marching Grill Team, The Shopping Cart Drill Team, The Bastard Sons of Lee Marvin, The Men of Leisure Synchronized Nap Team, The Marching Lumberjacks, Claude Rains & the 20-Man Memorial Invisible Man Marching Drill Team, and the Committee for the Right to Bear Arms, a group which marches in precise formations while carrying mannequin arms. This year the Grand Marshall will be the Reverend Billy of the Church of Stop Shopping.
